- *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* is a *Game of Thrones* prequel about Dunk and Egg, a would-be knight and his diminutive squire.

- Season 2 will adapt George R.R. Martin's *The Sworn Sword*, the second novella in Martin's Dunk and Egg saga.

- The season is currently filming in Ireland and slated to premiere in 2027.

There's more to George R.R. Martin's Westeros than politicking, palace intrigue, and epic fantasy battles — just take a look at *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*.

Set between the events of *House of the Dragon* and *Game of Thrones*, the latest *Game of Thrones* spinoff is an underdog story about Dunk "the lunk," an orphaned squire who tries to fake it until he makes it as a proper knight.

The series is based on a trio of novellas Martin penned between 1998 and 2010 about the adventures of Dunk and his own pint-sized, egg-headed squire, Egg. The stories were collected in 2015's *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*.

Speaking with ** in 2024, executive producer Ryan Condal described the stories as "wonderful counterpoint to George's world, which was really about the upper crust of the 1 percent: the kings and the high lords and ladies who essentially waged the game of thrones at the expense of the small folk." The stories of Dunk and Egg, he added, are "about the small folk who suffer at the hands of the game of thrones as it's played by the nobles."

The show's six-episode debut season wrapped on Feb. 22, earning critical praise and the admiration of Martin himself. "Dunk and Egg have always been favorites of mine, and the actors we found to portray them are just incredible," he wrote on his personal blog.

We know there are more Dunk and Egg stories, but will there be another season of *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*? Here's everything we know about season 2.**

Yes, HBO confirmed that a second season of *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* was moving forward in November 2025. As of this writing, it's currently filming in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Martin's franchise is alive and well at HBO, with the network announcing it also greenlit a fourth season of its other *Game of Thrones* prequel, *House of the Dragon*, the third season of which is due out this summer.**

What will A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 be about?

Season 2 of *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* will adapt "The Sworn Sword," the second novella in the Dunk and Egg saga.

Following the bloody Trial of Seven and Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell) defying his royal family to join Dunk (Peter Claffey) on the road, "The Sworn Sword" finds the pair linking up with an elderly knight as they search for Tanselle (Tanzyn Crawford).

Ahead of the season 1 finale, showrunner Ira Parker spoke with EW about staying true to the episodic nature of the novellas. "It's not that there are uncertain strings that are pulled all the way through, but every season Dunk and Egg are in a new place, we set up a story, we tell you the story, and we close out the story," he said.**

Should the series get renewed for a third season, the plan is to adapt "The Mystery Knight," the third novella collected in Martin's *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms*. Martin has spoken about writing more Dunk and Egg stories, and Parker is keen to adapt them.

"I'm not sure the end of the third novella is really a stopping place for a series," Parker told EW, adding that "I think these guys have a lot to say in the nature of the relationship and how it changes over the course of a life."**

Who’s in the cast of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2?

No official casting has been announced yet for *A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms* season 2, but we do know that Claffey and Ansell are set to return as Dunk and Egg.

In a February 2026 chat with The A.V. Club, Parker noted some of the characters he's excited to dig into in season 2, including Rohanne Webber, Bennis of the Brown Shield, and Ser Eustace** **Osgrey. "I can’t say much but we have three absolutely brilliant actors coming in to do these roles," he said.

There's been speculation about former Superman actor and *The Witcher* star Henry Cavill joining season 2, due in part to an offhand comment made by Ansell during a Comic-Con panel.

Claffey, however, took to his Instagram to call it a "complete misunderstanding," clarifying that Ansell's slip of the tongue had "nothing to do with Henry Cavill coming into the show or the *GOT* universe (I wish!)."**
