- The actress said she feels there are agents who "actually do know what they're doing."

- Goldberg added that "they're having a hard time" because they "don't recognize" the agency anymore.

Whoopi Goldberg has added a new layer of perspective to *The View*'s ongoing commentary on ICE's recent shooting death of Minnesota mom Renee Nicole Good.

One day after cohost Sara Haines said that Good "contributed to the heat" of the situation by "cutting off the road" with her car before an ICE agent drew his weapon and fired at her vehicle as she attempted to drive away, Goldberg defended some ICE agents amid the resulting national backlash.

"Know your rights. But, also, check out and find out what their rights are," Goldberg told the audience, championing their right to make their voices heard in opposition to ICE raids on undocumented people, but to do so in a safe way.

She continued, "Let us be very clear. Not all ICE agents are out of control. Not all of them. Some of them actually do know what they're doing, and they're having a hard time because they don't recognize the agency they've worked for for years. So, there's a lot going on."

The EGOT-winning *Ghost* actress doubled down on reminding viewers that, while they have the right to protest, "You don't have the right to be a bonehead. You can't spit on people. People don't like it. But, you do have the right to say we don't like what we see. We're going to protest."

"And know, if they come up on you, the ACLU is saying, listen, think carefully about what you say, keep your hands where the officers can see them, don't run or touch an officer, write down everything you remember about an incident as quick as you can, or try to find a witness and get their names and phone numbers," Goldberg continued. "They don't really do that now because people have phones. So, you know everyone is watching. Keep yourself safe, keep them safe, protest all you want to, don't get yourself in a trick bag."

*The View* cohosts have dissected Good's death over the last week, with legal expert and former federal prosecutor Sunny Hostin maintaining that she felt the 37-year-old's killing was illegal.

"We all know that it's unlawful, regardless of whether or not you believe she was an agitator, regardless of whether or not you believe she was in the way, the bottom line is the officer's actions were unlawful," Hostin said on Monday's broadcast. "That was an unlawful killing. It was illegal, from a legal perspective. That's very black and white for me."

Citing the 1985 *Tennessee v. Garner* Supreme Court ruling, Hostin said last week on the show that, "When that woman went in reverse and moved away from the officers... all that officer needed to do was move out of the way."**

Good's actions were condemned by several government officials, including Department of Homeland Security representative Tricia McLaughlin, who said in an email statement to EW in response to *The View'*s analysis that Good was among the protesters who "began blocking ICE officers" in the moment.

McLaughlin labeled Good as "violent" and alleged that she "weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them — an act of domestic terrorism."**

Similarly, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed that Good's actions were an "act of domestic terrorism" in her view, as she said Good specifically targeted ICE agents before alleging that the woman “attempted to run them over and rammed them with her vehicle. An officer of ours acted quickly and defensively, shot, to protect himself and the people around him."
