The royal family has been visiting the United States for nearly 90 years now, making appearances in various states across the nation. While official tours and impromptu visits can come with a range of important duties, they typically also allow for public-facing moments of downtime and celebrity-studded fun.

This week, King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to undertaketheir first state visit to the U.S.; to celebrate, take a look back at royal visits to the U.S. throughout history—from King George VI and the future Queen Mother’s first hot dog to then-Prince Charles’s date with Tricia Nixon. (As a note, now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle—still members of the British royal family, despite not officially representing King Charles—live in the U.S. full-time, based in Montecito, California, we won’t be including their outings in America, as it is their home now.)
