Rueben Bain Jr.’s Relentless Work Ethic Stands Out

Rueben Bain Jr. is already showing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers that his relentless approach to football did not disappear when he made the jump from Miami to the NFL. If anything, the first-round pick appears to be bringing the same mentality with him to Tampa Bay, and that could become one of his biggest advantages as he prepares for his rookie season.

Bain has been spotted staying after practice to continue working, long after the rest of the team has left the field. It is the kind of extra work that can be easy to overlook during the grind of training camp, but for Bain, there appears to be a clear purpose behind it. Speaking with ESPN's Jenna Laine, Bain explained why he has embraced working late. “Most of my plays were made in the fourth quarter.” That mentality says plenty about how Bain views his game. Rather than looking at fatigue as a reason to slow down, he sees it as an opportunity to gain an advantage. “The O-linemen are a little more tired than me.”

It is a simple thought, but it perfectly captures the mindset the Buccaneers were hoping to get when they selected Bain 15th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. Tampa Bay did not draft him simply because of his physical ability. The Buccaneers were betting on a player known for his motor, toughness, and relentless style of play. Bain's college production backed up that reputation. At Miami, he finished his career with 20.5 sacks and 33.5 tackles for loss, including 9.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss during his final season. The physical talent is obvious, but developing the habit of continuing to work when everyone else is finished is something more. Rookie pass rushers face an enormous adjustment in the NFL, where offensive linemen are bigger, stronger, and more experienced. Bain seems intent on shortening that learning curve however he can.
