Nick Jonas explained that his audition for Disney’s Frozen did not go well.

He and his brothers interviewed several of the movie’s stars, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad, on their Hey Jonas! podcast.

The 2013 animated film was a massive hit.

Nick Jonas wanted to be part of the 2013 animated movie Frozen, but the audition didn’t go his way.

The Jonas Brothers star explained what happened on Tuesday’s edition of the Hey Jonas! podcast hosted by Nick and his brothers Joe and Kevin, when Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), and Josh Gad (Olaf) were the guests.

ā€œI went in for Kristoff,ā€ Nick said of the character played by Jonathan Groff. ā€œI went in and they said, ā€˜Okay, what are you going to be singing today?’ I said, ā€˜Oh, I don’t know.’ They said, ā€˜What do you mean you don’t know?’ They’re like, ā€˜Do you have your sheet music?’ And I said, ā€˜No, no one told me I had.…,’ and so I just said, ā€˜Can you play something from,’ I don’t know what I said, some musical theater song. And I bombed the audition. It was terrible.ā€

Eesh.

That’s when Bell deadpanned, ā€œThat must have been why you didn’t get it.ā€

Nick admitted it was.

Gad then offered his own quip: ā€œLook, I’ll say it here. You have such better chemistry with Kristen than Groff.ā€

Everyone laughed at this.

ā€œI love Jonathan Groff,ā€ said Nick, before playfully adding, ā€œbut I do think it would have been better to cast me.ā€

Kevin asked his brother if he’d ever worked with the team he’d been working with at the time again.

ā€œI’ve changed agencies three times since then,ā€ Nick shared.

Despite his bad experience with the casting department, Nick said that he was able to enjoy the finished product.

ā€œI didn’t spite-watch it,ā€ he assured the group. ā€œI really did enjoy it the first time.ā€

And obviously he wasn’t alone.

Frozen was a massive hit both critically and commercially. The original film grossed $1.3 billion at the global box office, while the 2019 sequel earned another $1.5 billion.

Bell, Menzel, and Gad were being interviewed in the wake of their appearances at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event convention, where they teased, yep, Frozen 3 and Frozen 4.

As for Nick, he’s done quite well for himself even without the popular Disney franchise.

He’s still making music with his brothers — including in the new sequel of their own Camp Rock franchise —and he’s also acted in projects such as Jersey Boys Live!, Scream Queens, and Jumanji: The Next Level.
