The New York Jets finally recorded an interception, though it came with a brutal twist.

With 9:30 remaining in the second quarter of the Jets' preseason matchup against the Steelers, Pittsburgh quarterback Will Howard surveyed the field looking for a target to sling the ball to. The quarterback found a target, Roman Wilson, and quickly threw the ball as the pocket collapsed.

Reading the play, Jets safety Andre Cisco, who missed part of the 2025 NFL season due to a shoulder injury, calmly snagged the ball out of the air and was eventually taken down at the 30-yard line, recording the team's first interception in over a calendar year.

However, the play came during the preseason, meaning it does not officially count as a recorded statistic. Last season, the Jets gained infamy as the first team in league history to go a season without recording an interception.

Fans on social media were ecstatic to see the Jets' accomplishment, even though it did not truly count toward any official statistic. "It's a miracle! The New York Jets got an INTERCEPTION," one fan on X wrote after Cisco snagged Howard's ball.

Another commenter posted, "A Jets defensive interception out in the wild! First in a full year." Notably, the last time the Jets recorded an interception in a game was on January 5, 2025, against the Miami Dolphins, marking more than a full year since a Jets player accomplished the feat.

A third poster shared their thoughts on the play, writing, "oh look, the jets finally notched an interception…too bad it doesn’t count."

Not to be outdone, defensive star Samuel Womack added his imprint in the game. Howard, with ample time in the pocket, once again targeted Roman Wilson, this time with just under two minutes remaining in the half.

Much like Cisco earlier, Womack easily grabbed the ball before it reached Wilson, with Howard seemingly having aimed the throw right at the Jets star. Fans understood that even though what happens during preseason games and the stats accrued do not count, it still means something to the fanbase.

"I know it’s preseason. But that interception mattered," one fan wrote on X.

With the Jets having already recorded two interceptions, it appears the team is learning from its mistakes last season, a year in which it won just three games.

In the same vein, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn admitted that he must take a big jump this season, acknowledging a mistake he made in his first year: Arguing with reporters.

"Absolutely. Absolutely... Another mistake. Because I came in and I was already pissed at something else, had nothing to do with the media," he said in an interview with The Athletic.

"And then I started to think, man, take it out, these guys and gals, and for what? They had nothing to do with this here. That was a mistake.”
