The Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants will no longer air on The CW Network, the pageant has announced just one week before the national beauty competitions

In a statement posted to Instagram, the pageant said that a contractual issue regarding production arrangements had been unable to be resolved in time for next week’s contests

Last year’s competition marked the first time since 1965 that the pageant had not aired live on broadcast television

The Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants have been dropped by their television partner, The CW Network, just one week before the beauty competitions are set to take place. On Aug. 20, the Miss USA organization shared a statement via Instagram Stories revealing that the pageant would no longer be broadcast live on The CW because of “a contractual issue” with “production arrangements that could not be resolved within the necessary time frame.”

“While The CW will not be carrying a live broadcast of Miss USA this year, we are grateful for our relationship with the network and remain open to opportunities to work together in the future,” the organization continued.A spokesperson for The CW Network also confirmed the news to PEOPLE, writing in a statement: “After careful consideration and conversations with the Miss USA Organization, The CW Network has decided to forego next week’s broadcasts of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants. We wish the organization and all of this year’s contestants well in the competition.”Last year’s 2025 Miss USA contest marked the first time that the pageant had not been shown live on broadcast TV since 1965. Instead, the pageant streamed on Queen Beauty Network, where it will also return this year, following the recent shakeups. The year prior, The CW had also shown the pageant on its channels, previously agreeing to a three-year deal with former Miss USA CEO Laylah Rose in April 2024.

However, just a month later, controversy rocked the pageant when Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt and Miss Teen USA UmaSofia Srivastava each relinquished their titles, alleging that they had been bullied by Rose. The queens’ decisions marked a first for the pageant’s over 70-year history at the time. Rose denied the allegations. In the lead-up to last year’s Miss USA competition, the current president and CEO Thom Brodeur announced the news of his appointment to the role on Instagram on Sept. 4, sharing that he would be acquiring the rights to the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA brands. However, almost immediately after he announced his new role with the pageant, Rose refuted Brodeur’s claim in a message posted to the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA Instagram accounts on Sept. 8. Then, almost a week later, on Sept. 15, the Miss Universe organization — which owns both Miss USA and Miss Teen USA — officially named Brodeur as Rose’s replacement in a press release.

The lead-up to this year’s Miss USA pageant has not been without its own share of controversy.Miss North Carolina USA Brittany Boltinhouse was ousted from her title just weeks before the pageant, the organization announced on Instagram on Aug. 5, saying the decision was made jointly with the titleholder, her state directors and the organization following what it described as conduct that violated its standards. The organization appointed Boltinhouse’s runner-up, Myla Hadley, as the next Miss North Carolina USA. Hadley is set to represent the state at the Miss USA competition finals on Aug. 27.

While Thom Brodeur, chairman and CEO of Miss USA and Miss Teen USA, did not specify the conduct that led to the decision, he said the organization “does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia nor language that strips any person of their dignity.”Following the announcement, Boltinhouse spoke out in an interview with the editor-in-chief of the Carolina Journal, saying that she believed her “conservative political and social values” have “harmed” her during the pageant. Later, the pageant queen revealed that she had hired a lawyer, Patrick Mincey, to represent Boltinhouse “in connection with anticipated legal action arising from the wrongful and unjustified stripping of the Miss North Carolina USA 2026 title.”
