Martin Short's Comedy Shows Postponed After Daughter's Tragic Death

Martin Short has postponed upcoming tour dates following the sudden death of his daughter, Katherine Short.

The comedian was scheduled to perform this weekend in Milwaukee and Minneapolis alongside longtime friend and Only Murders in the Building costar Steve Martinas part of their live show, The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short. However, venue websites fans that the performances were postponed due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

“Tickets will be honored for a future rescheduled date. We will be in contact with further news when it is available,” the venue assured fans.

According to reports by TMZ who spoke with staff, a final decision was made behind the scenes to pull the shows as the day progressed. It remains unclear when—or if—the dates will be rescheduled.

Katherine, 42, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Law enforcement sources confirmed that officers with the LAPD and members of the fire department responded to her Hollywood Hills residence shortly after 6:40 p.m. PT on Monday, February 23 where she was found deceased.

Katherine was the eldest child of Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman. Dolman, whom Short was married to for more than three decades, died of ovarian cancer in August 2010 at the age of 58. The couple adopted three children together during their 36-year marriage—Katherine in December 1983, followed by sons Oliver and Henry in 1986 and 1989.

According to PEOPLE, Katherine pursued a path in social work. After earning her bachelor’s degree from NYU, she later completed a master’s degree in social work from USC and worked professionally in Los Angeles.

Short has not publicly commented on his daughter’s passing and reps have yet to respond to Parade’s request for comment.
