Mark Hamill, most well-known for playing Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, is quite a familiar face, so fans were completely stunned when they saw his latest role and didn't recognize him.
On Jan. 12, Hamill shared photos from his latest performance as The Flying Dutchman in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, in which he voiced the character and portrayed him in live-action scenes.
He wrote in the caption, "For 18 months, I had to keep the secret that I didn’t just voice The Flying Dutchman in the SpongeBob movie, but I also played him in live-action sequences."
Hamill included a few photos from behind-the-scenes showing how he transformed into the familiar character, writing, "The hours it took flew by thanks to superb makeup artists Gage Munster & Marcel Banks who were both so kind AND hilarious. 🤣 Thanks fellas! 🙏."
In the photos, Hamill looked completely different, with a long hooked nose and an impressive dark beard that covered the bottom half of his face. Of course, he also wore The Flying Dutchman's familiar pirate hat.

Fans proved how well the makeup artists did by noting how stunned they were to learn that Hamill was The Flying Dutchman. A fan commented, "Dude, I can’t even see you under the make up. Just the eyes. That’s is so cool!"
"Whoa! Unrecognizable! How cool is that?" said someone else, with another fan responding, "right? It's incredible!"
Other fans chimed in, saying, "I knew that face looked familiar while I was watching the movie! Such great makeup!" and "???? DUDE you were unrecognizable."
Someone joked, "No wonder he’s so powerful. He has the force!"
Most fans said they either didn't know it was Hamill or simply wondered if it was, while a few declared that they recognized him immediately. One such fan claimed, "Our entire theater row went wild when we recognized your voice. 👏👏👏."
Along with his iconic live-action roles, Hamill is also known for his voice work, with his arguably most famous role being the voice of The Joker in many DC animated projects. A few other recent voice work projects include Big City Greens, Invincible, and Masters of the Universe: Revolution.
