In 1985, at the age of 6, McCullough joined the cast of General Hospital as the daughter of World Security Bureau agent Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes).
She won her first Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Juvenile Female in a Drama Series in 1989 at the age of 11.
She remained a part of the soap opera until her first exit in 2000. She made a brief return to ABC daytime on All My Children in 2001 with the reintroduction of her on-screen mother, Anna Devane, to the ABC landscape, before returning to General Hospital in 2004.
The actress left the soap opera in 2018 and made her final appearance in 2021 to pay tribute to her late co-star, John Reilly, who played Sean Donely.
