- - Jennifer Garner Makes Rare Comments About the Hardest Part of Her Divorce From Ben Affleck

Jennifer Garner isn't one to talk about her personal life, but the beloved actress opened up in a new interview about her 2015 divorce from Ben Affleck.

The star, 53, who finalized her divorce from Affleck in 2018, told Marie Claire UK that while the onslaught of press attention wasn't exactly easy, that wasn't what was "hard" about the end of her marriage.

“You have to be smart about what you can and can’t handle, and I could not handle what was out there. But what was out there,” Garner told the publication, gesturing into the distance, “was not what was hard. The fact of it is what was hard. The actual breaking up of a family is what was hard. Losing a true partnership and friendship is what was hard.”

Garner, who returns for the second season of the Apple TV+ series The Last Thing He Told Me, went on to say that relying on the community around her was what carried her through the difficult journey.

“I make a big, concerted effort to see my people as much as I can, because that’s what matters," she said. "That’s where your resilience is: it’s in your relationships and in the people who carry you through.”

Garner and Affleck Know How to Coparent Successfully

While the couple is no longer together, Affleck and Garner know how to coparent their three children successfully. However, Garner told Marie Claire UK that she never knew she'd be able to reach that level.

“And then, yeah, that I’m able to co-parent at this point in time with peace and equanimity and a partnership that I didn’t know I would ever get back to. I think it’s important for women to know, when they think, ‘Oh, I’ll never see that, I’ll never have that feeling, I’ll never be friends with this person again’ [that] time is the opportunity," she noted. "Time is the opportunity to heal. Time is the opportunity to forgive, to move on and to find a new way to be friends.”

Hanging Out Together With Their Kids

The two Hollywood heavyweights are frequently spotted out and about with their kids. Back in September, the reunited for a movie night with their two younger children, Seraphina Rose and Samuel, while Affleck’s mother was also in attendance. (Their eldest child, Violet, is currently studying at Yale.) The couple also reunited back in July to take in a Red Sox game at Fenway Park in Boston. The family of four watched the Sox take on the Tampa Bay Rays.
