Harry Hamlin revealed to PEOPLE that he celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary with wife Lisa Rinna early by going on a tropical getaway

The couple hadn’t taken a vacation without their children in "32 years"

Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna decided to celebrated their milestone 30th wedding anniversary early.

The couple will hit three decades of marriage on March 29, 2027. However, Hamlin, 74, revealed while chatting with PEOPLE at the AMC Global Media 2026 Upfront at Spring Studios in New York City on Wednesday, April 29, that they already marked the occasion with a special getaway.

"Well, actually, we celebrated 29 for 30 because the world situation is not looking like it's going to be amenable to having lots of travel fun next year," Hamlin tells PEOPLE. "Uh, you know, who knows what'll happen, but we took this little window of time and we went back to a place we'd been to 32 years ago."

The actor and author notes that it was the first trip, just the two of them, in many years.

"What we realized about a month ago was that we hadn't gone on a trip together, just the two of us, in 32 years because we had kids and we always went with them," says Hamlin, who shares daughters Delilah, 27, and Amelia, 24, with Rinna. He is also father to son Dimitri, 45, whom he shares with ex Ursula Andress, 90.

He continues, "So we hadn't had a romantic trip and so we had one and it was great."

After being asked where they traveled to, Hamlin hinted, "Well, I highly recommend Tahiti."

One month ago, Rinna, 62, marked their 29th wedding anniversary on Instagram by posting a series of throwback photos alongside a sweet tribute to her hubby. The sentimental carousel included a shot of the couple kissing on their wedding day, and was set to the Whitney Houston hit "I Have Nothing."

"29 years married to Harry Hamlin ❤️," Rinna wrote on March 29. "The love of my life, sexiest man alive, chef extraordinary, best husband and father… I love you more everyday."

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum continued, "I think this might have been our first dance song… idk 30 years is a long time 😂 But it was definitely Whitney Houston! One of the best days of my life, followed by the birth of my girls. So grateful for this beautiful family of ours 🫶🏻."

Just over a week later on April 7, Rinna posted sexy swimsuit photos from their tropical getaway on Instagram, writing, "Having the time of our lives ☀️." The caption and poses paid homage to Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet's recent vacation, which they shared sunny snaps from in separate posts on Instagram.

Earlier in the year in February, Rinna shared on the Dinner's on Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson podcast that "a good marriage is a lot of work." She credited "mutual respect" and therapy, as needed, as keys to her relationship.

"As long as you have a mutual respect for one another, I think is really the key," she said. "The minute you start to devalue one another, that's when you gotta go to therapy and stop that. Because it's easy. Resentment builds up, and you could be, like, mad from 20 years ago and not even know it. You gotta catch that s--t."

She added, "If you need to go to therapy, you go to therapy. If you have issues you can't get through, you just gotta do it."
